Non-Traditional Output Registry
The NTO Registry: credit, recognition, and reward for the datasets, software, training, and reviewing work that publication metrics leave out.
This registry operationalises a landscaping study from ELIXIR Europe researchers, giving 24 non-traditional output types — across data, software, training, research support, and peer review — a shared definition, real examples, and a path to credit capture. Versioned, machine-readable, and open for the community to extend, it's built to support policymakers and institutions adopting alternative research assessment.
What is a Non-Traditional Output (NTO)?
A Non-Traditional Output is any output or activity that sustains modern research but is systematically under-represented in publication-centric assessment — from a curated database entry to a FAIR software release to a grant peer-review report. This registry gives each type a shared definition, real examples, and a path to credit capture.
